Lot 10 Hutong

The man behind YTL Corporation, Francis Yeoh, is a visionary. Knowing Malaysians' crave for good food, he has convinced many popular restaurants and food stalls under one roof: Lot 10 shopping mall at Bukit Bintang. Popular brands which have accepted Mr. Yeoh invitation are Roast Duckking (烧鸭王), Ghee Hiang (义香), Kong Tai (鸿泰), Kim Lian Kee (金莲记) etc just to name a few.
The lower-ground food court, aptly named Lot 10 Hutong (十号胡同) is a labyrinth of food counters where these reputable eateries are available. Hutong (胡同) is a type of narrow alley prominently featured in the city of Beijing (北京). Some of these alleys have been designated as protected areas to preserve this cultural aspect of Beijing.
One of our must-haves at Lot 10 Hutong is the Bak Kut Teh Set B (RM17.40) at Pin Qian Klang Bak Kut Teh (品芊巴生肉骨茶). Ironically, this brand is not as well-known among Klang locals. This set consists of a bowl of bak kut teh (肉骨茶) i.e. stewed pork in herbal soup, a bowl of braised pork rice (卤肉饭) and a cup of Chinese tea.
The bak kut teh concoction is really mouth-watering. The fat layer, soft tissues and lean meat are meant to be savored together. The herbal stew is rich in flavors and has a distinctive bitter aftertaste. It is also served with some mushrooms which make the soup even yummier.
Next up is the Hokkien Mee (福建面, RM9.50) at Kim Lian Kee (金莲记). This is the Klang Valley version of Hokkien Mee, using fat yellow noodles and thick dark sauce. This stall has one of the longest queues in Lot 10 Hutong, despite the fact that Kim Lian Kee has three "production lines" of woks. Usually, a maximum of two servings are stir-fried in a session to maintain the wok hei (镬气). The thick dark sauce is just irresistible, and the sambal (dried shrimp chili paste) gives this dish another breath of life.
The third dish today is the Char Siew Wantan Noodles (叉烧云吞面, RM7.90) from Ho Weng Kee (何荣记). The thick succulent cuts of char siew (叉烧) or barbecued pork are smooth and tender, and carries a delightful sweet sensation.
The food at Lot 10 Hutong is not cheap. But given the heavy traffic in Klang Valley, it is a viable option to sample famous eateries under one single roof.
