The main livestock on the farm is goats. The majority of goats here are of Saanen breed. Originally from Switzerland, Saanen goats are known for their high milk production.
The goats are mostly kept in shaded enclosures. Visitors can pet the animals over the barrier.
The farm has a schedule of feeding times for the goats. For a more personal experience, visitors can purchase animal feed from the farm.
The goats are not at all shy about grabbing food within their reach.
Saanen Dairy Goat Farm has dairy products like fresh milk, yogurt, cheese and ice cream on sale. Goat milk is quite rich and creamy, but has a distinctive odor that not everyone may be comfortable with.
Besides goats, the farm has a variety of fruit trees on its premises.
Shown here are a cactus fruit which we usually call pitaya or dragon fruits.
Mulberries are grown here too. The fruit turns from pink to purple as it ripens.
Admission to Saanen Dairy Goat Farm is free and no prior appointment is needed. The petting zoo is a great place for children who seldom encounter barnyard animals nowadays.
