Oh Kueh Chi

Oh Kueh Chi (黑瓜子) is a popular hawker center in downtown Klang. There is no official name for this place, but the locals refer it as such due to a Chinese stir-frying (煮炒) stall which operates at night. During the day, there are other stalls that sell a variety of hawker food.
Nasi Ayam Hiang Kee (香记海南鸡饭) is an old-timer here. It is popular for boiled chicken (白斩鸡), but we decided to go for roasted chicken (烤鸡) today. The chicken is quite smooth and tasty overall. This serving of Chicken Rice (鸡饭, RM6.00) comes with rice and soup.
I notice that Klang townsfolk like to drizzle sweet soy sauce over chicken rice. Well, I guess when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Not a bad idea, actually.
Another veteran at this hawker center is Kah Ping (嘉宾), which specializes in noodles. The stall is very popular, so expect to wait for more than 30 minutes during lunch hour. The proprietor does not appear friendly to customers; perhaps he is too busy.
The bowl of Mee Hoon Kueh (面粉粿, RM5.00) from Kah Ping consists of flour pieces, fried anchovies, shrimp and choy sum (菜心). The soup is derived from boiling anchovies, making it quite tasty indeed.
The dough is rolled flat, and then torn by hand to bite-size pieces. This increases the surface area and allows the sheets to absorb soup more easily. Overall, the bowl of Mee Hoon Kueh is satisfying.
There is also another stall called Jalan Batai Char Kuey Teow. The proprietor used to operate a stall at Restoran Seng Lee (胜利茶餐室) at Jalan Batai, Damansara Heights.
The plate of Char Kuey Teow (炒粿条, RM5.00) is similar to Penang's, but I feel that the cooking lacks "wok hei" (镬气). I also prefer it to be spicier. There are two shrimps but their freshness is suspect. The paltry amount of blood cockles (血蚶) is also disappointing.
As for drinks, Asam Boi (桔子酸梅, RM1.50) is the remedy to quench one's thirst during a hot afternoon. Made from lime juice, Asam Boi also contains two pieces of sour plum (酸梅).
