Update: This business has ceased its operations.
The former nearly-deserted Anson Park Food Court has been taken over by a new management team. This new hawker center has been renamed as Angkiki Food Court (红支支美食中心), after the former stall Angkiki Hot Pot which was operated by the same proprietor.
Angkiki Food Court has been given a new lease of life with a growing number of hawker stalls (oyster omelette, char koay teow etc) in the past few weeks. One of them is Wah Nam Roasted House (烨煵烧腊轩), whose owner also operates several stalls in other hawker centers.
The menu here features duck, pork and chicken dishes. In turn, these can be served with noodle, rice or porridge. For the former, noodle can be served dry (干捞), with soup or with curry.
According to the proprietor, his signature delicacy is roasted duck. Judging from the waxy appearance of roasted duck displayed in the front panel, it is evident that the proprietor knows his trade well.
To start off, the first dish is the Roasted Pork Mee (烧肉烧腊面, RM5.50). As recommended, the noodle of choice is wan tan mee (云吞面). Unlike flour-based noodle used by lesser hawkers, Wah Nam Roasted House uses lots of eggs. As a result, the noodle is springy and delectable even without gravy.
The choice of gravy is curry as recommended by the proprietor. While using curry with wan tan mee is not unheard of, there are few stalls that can do it well. The curry is mild in flavor such that it does not overwhelm the egg-flavored noodle. This is a fine choice if you do not mind a little spiciness.
The noodle also include a bowl of clear soup to make up for the relative dryness.
Barbecued pork is also another delicacy not to be overlooked. Each tender piece of pork is enhanced with honey-like sweetness. I must also give credit to the balanced flavor of dark sauce.
