Sam Poh Temple (三宝万佛寺) is a Buddhist temple on a hill overlooking Brinchang, Cameron Highlands. The temple quite prominent for a town of this size. People of all faiths are welcome to enter. There is no admission fee.
The first building inside the temple is the Hall of Heavenly Kings (天王殿). Two bronze qilins guard the entrance. The hall mainly worships Maitreya Bodhisattva (弥勒菩萨). To the left and right are the Four Heavenly Kings (四大天王). Meanwhile, Skanda Bodhisattva (韦驮菩萨) faces the back to guard the main temple hall, Mahavira Hall.
Mahavira Hall (大雄宝殿) features a large golden statue of Gautama Buddha (释迦牟尼). The statue is flanked by Manjushri Bodhisattva (文殊菩萨) riding a lion and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (普贤菩萨) riding a white elephant.
The Chinese name for Sam Poh Temple (三宝万佛寺) literally translates as "Temple of Triple Gems and Ten Thousand Buddhas". The "triple gems" are the Buddha (佛宝), the Dharma (法宝) and the Sangha (僧宝). Meanwhile, "ten thousand buddhas" refer to countless Buddha tiles on the walls of Mahavira Hall.
