Chikuma

Update: This business has ceased its operations.

Although Sunway Tunas is a residential area at the crossroads of Bayan Baru, Relau and Sungai Ara, the commercial shops in the area are relatively quiet. This does not mean that there are no eateries around. The place that I visited today is the Chikuma Japanese Restaurant (竹馬日本料理), just next to Teow Chew Meng.
The first thing that grabbed my attention is the ice cream deal. For any set meal purchased, the diner can have as much ice cream as one's desire. Considering that most set meals cost less than RM20.00 each, this looks like a reasonable offer.
From the set meal menu, I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Set (RM16.80). The main highlight of this dish is the grilled salmon fillet in teriyaki sauce. The texture of the salmon was a bit rough, which suggests that it is not very fresh or it was overcooked. In addition, the fillet is quite small, so it may not be sufficient for an average diner.
Besides the salmon itself, the set meal comes with a bowl of chawanmushi (茶碗蒸し), salad, miso soup and rice.

Now comes the self-service free flow of ice cream. The ice cream is of Nestlé brand, and comes in several huge tubs in a freezer. There are five flavors in total: vanilla, strawberry, mint, chocolate and yam. Even though the main dish was a bit of a disappointment, the free flow of ice cream partially makes up for it.
