The Geylang district of Singapore is notorious for prostitution (which is legal in Singapore). But it is also known for cheap accommodation and eateries. The Aljunied MRT station serves this township.
Once again for the convenience, I had my lunch at a local food center here in Geylang, Junction Food Place (正胜美食中心). It is within a short walking distance from the MRT station.
There are several food stalls available, but I opted for the Minced Pork Soup With Rice (肉碎清汤配白饭, S$4.00). The meal comes with a bowl of plain rice. The soup is kept warm by burning oil underneath. The taste is just average, nothing really to shout about.
One thing that I noticed is that Singapore's no-smoking ban applies even to open-air food centers like Junction Food Place. If you think about it, why is smoking banned at bus stations in Malaysia (which is still openly flouted due to lack of enforcement) but not at food centers where people put food into their mouths? Really something to ponder...
